29th April Wednesday

Dear parents, this morning at 7am, I went through the topic on application of the Apostrophe with the girls. Prior to this, I have noticed that the girls were unable to understand the need/purpose of using the apostrophe and hence not able to use them correctly. Below are some common mistakes.

  • These boys' are the drivers sons.
  • These boys are the drivers' sons.
  • The childrens' computers are spoilt.
  • The children's computers are spoilt.
  • These are my youngest's sister books.
  • These are my youngest sister's books.
  • These boys' are Joan friends.
  • These boys are Joan's friends.

Some of the girls have difficulties identifying the categories of things/people in the sentence and therefore, unable to correctly identify the ownership of things to people or people to people.
